Manas National Park, Assam named after the Manas river is a biosphere reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located in the Himalayan foothills, borders the Royal Manas National Park in Bhutan. 

Apart from the Tiger and Leopard population, the park is known for its rare and endangered endemic wildlife such as

  • the Assam roofed turtle

  • Hispid hare

  • Golden langur

  • Clouded Leopard

  • and pygmy hog. 

 

The Manas hosts more than 450 species of birds. It has the largest population of the endangered Bengal florican to be found anywhere.

 

Only national park where you can sight 5 species of Hornbills- 

  • Wreathed hornbill, 

  • Rufous-necked hornbill, 

  • Great hornbills, 

  • Pied hornbills, 

  • Grey hornbills.

 

Other major bird species include -

Grey-lored Broadbill, Long-tailed Broadbill, jungle fowls, bulbuls, brahminy ducks, kalij pheasants, egrets, pelicans, fishing eagles, crested serpent-eagles, falcons, scarlet minivets, bee-eaters, mergansers, harriers, Indian peafowl, ospreys and herons.

 

Kaziranga National Park is a national park in the state of Assam, India.

The Indian rhinoceros, royal Bengal tiger, Asian elephant, wild water buffalo and swamp deer are collectively known as 'Big Five' of Kaziranga.

 

KNP has 5 ranges. The park, which hosts two-thirds of the world's Indian rhinoceroses, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is home to the world's largest population of the Indian rhinoceros, wild water buffalo and eastern swamp deer along with significant populations of Indian elephants, sambar, Indian boar and Indian hog deer.

 

Kaziranga is also recognized as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International for conservation of avifaunal species. Kaziranga contains significant breeding populations of 35 mammalian species, of which 15 are threatened as per the IUCN Red List.

 

The primary attraction is the photographic opportunity of Indian rhinoceros, royal Bengal tiger, Asian elephant, wild water buffalo and swamp deer.

The rare Bengal Florican, Grey-lored broadbill, Swamp francolin, and pale-capped pigeon.

Sighting chances of Golden langur and hoolock gibbon, many species of hornbills, vultures, raptors and owls.

Many migratory waterfowl and shorebirds winter here.
